Oct 16, 2026 · Axios Denver · independently verified local report
Ten candidates for Denver’s open at-large City Council seat largely agreed on data centers, surveillance and housing at a public forum. All ten supported banning large-scale data centers in disproportionately impacted areas and adding regulations to data-center operations. Most backed limits on AI mass-surveillance tools and conditions on renewing the city’s license-plate-reader contract. A majority also supported a community land trust, rental and utility assistance, and social housing. Axios noted the forum was designed to secure commitments, so the near-consensus did not necessarily reflect the full range of campaign debate.

Pumpkin so huge it may rewrite the record books
Oct 12, 2026 · AP · from the October 18 prep email
Grower Ron Wallace displayed a 3,156-pound pumpkin in Rhode Island this month. The enormous gourd was weighed at a New England competition, according to an Associated Press report published October 12. Its weight surpassed a recently reported 2,857-pound benchmark, although Guinness confirmation was still pending when AP reported. Wallace chose to compete near home despite other competitions offering more prize money. This is an absurdly large fall-harvest achievement, with the official world-record status still to be decided.

A dog named LouLou survived roughly 50 hours alone after an avalanche in Alaska. UPI reported the rescue on October 16. Volunteer searchers eventually spotted and captured the missing dog in snowy wilderness. The account was shared as a survival-and-rescue story rather than an ordinary lost-pet notice. It's the kind of against-the-odds animal story likely to interest listeners well beyond Alaska.

A flying-car demonstration takes a strange turn
Oct 16, 2026 · UPI · from the October 18 prep email
Tesla presented a Roadster 2 demonstration in Texas on Friday, October 16. According to UPI, the vehicle was launched upside down from a vertical ramp during the showcase. The company presented the stunt in connection with its much-discussed flying-car idea. The available report describes a demonstration, not an independently confirmed consumer-ready flying automobile. It's a good technology-and-hype conversation starter as long as the engineering claims aren't overstated.
